Lead Mechatronics Engineer
Location: Espoo, Finland
Type: Full-time
Start Date: As soon as possible
Work mode: Hybrid (3 days at the office with flexibility)
At Hyperion Robotics, we are on a mission to bring sustainability and automation to one of the largest and most conservative sectors, the construction industry. Using robotic 3D printing technology and low-carbon upcycled materials we are rethinking the way construction elements are designed and built. We collaborate with leading clients in the construction, industrial and infrastructure sectors and we are backed by some of the top investors in Europe.
We are looking for a Lead Mechatronics Engineer to drive the development and integration of advanced mechatronic subsystems within our robotic 3D-printing systems. In this role, you will combine hands-on engineering with technical leadership — designing, prototyping, testing, and optimizing our systems while leading a talented team of engineers and shaping how our R&D operations scale.
What you will do
Lead the design and implementation of mechatronic subsystems for Hyperion’s 3D-printing systems — from concept to commissioning.
Prototype, test, and troubleshoot mechanical and control components, ensuring high performance and reliability.
Prepare and maintain engineering documentation including drawings, BOMs, and communication with manufacturers.
Oversee system installation, commissioning, and support, traveling occasionally within the EU and UK for on-site delivery.
Lead and mentor a team of 3–5 engineers (mechatronics and automation), fostering technical excellence and collaboration.
Collaborate with the Head of R&D to refine and optimize our development processes — running sprints, managing backlogs, and improving efficiency.
Contribute to DevOps operations by defining and implementing better workflows, documentation standards, and performance metrics.
Drive continuous improvement across design, testing, and delivery to shorten development cycles and increase team productivity.
Who we are looking for
Degree in Mechatronics, Control Engineering, or a related field.
6+ years of experience in designing and implementing complex mechatronic systems (industrial equipment, robotics, or additive manufacturing).
Strong background in mechanical design (SolidWorks or similar) and preparation of manufacturing drawings.
Proven expertise in instrumentation and control engineering, including component selection, calibration, data acquisition, and feedback loop design.
Experience with PLC integration and system commissioning.
Leadership experience — mentoring engineers and driving team performance.
Familiarity with DevOps principles and agile methodologies (e.g. Jira, Confluence, Kanban).
Excellent communication skills in English.
Willingness to travel within the EU and UK for installation and commissioning assignments (up to one month at a time).
It’s a big plus if you also have:
- Experience with TwinCAT/Beckhoff and structured text programming.
Background in robotics (preferably KUKA).
Knowledge of safety design and validation, including functional safety standards.
Experience in startups or scale-ups, where you’ve balanced hands-on work with process development.
Working knowledge of G-Sheets and documentation tools.
What we offer:
Working in a friendly and international team of driven people on a the mission to transform the construction industry
Opportunities to contribute in different areas and grow your skills
Broad variety of in-person social events to build connections and have fun
Two weeks of extra paid vacation during the first year of employment
Extensive private occupational healthcare
Fair compensation package and fringe benefits
If you are excited about this opportunity, send your CV and motivation letter in English via our application form. We review applications on a rolling basis and will fill the role as soon as we find the right candidate.
